FINALLY...Toews brings it in the zone, sends a cross crease pass to Hossa and he puts it home for a 4-1 game.
Not really any chances the rest of the game and Anaheim coasts to the easy win to take home ice advantage away from Chicago.
4-1 final...31 shots for Anaheim 19 for Chicago

Game 2 (Anaheim leads series 1-0)
1st period
Selanne scores 30 seconds into the period and then Getzlaf slides one past Huet to make it 2-0 at 6:02. Huet was pulled after that goal. He looked terrible so he gets the hook and Niemi comes in.

Later in the period Niemi saves the first shot but Koivu bangs home the rebound...2-0 ducks.
End of 1st period: 2-0 ducks...shot: Ducks 7 Chicago 6

2nd period
Lupul takes a pass from Selanne and roofs it under the glove of Niemi to make the score 3-0 ducks mid way through the 2nd. I am so mad right now.
SHOTS Chicago 12...Anaheim 14

3rd period
Lots of pressure for the Hawks but Giguere is playing great...Chicago goes to the PP when Beleskey takes a delay of game call.
Bolland shovels in a shot off a rebound from a cam barker point shot...PP goal...3-1 ducks

Shots: Chicago 28...anaheim 16

OT
A shot is taken from the point and saved by Giguere but Patrick Sharp bats it out of the air to win the game 4-3 OT win for Chicago. Unbelievable comeback from 3-0 down.
SHOTS: Chicago 32 Anaheim 20

Game 4 (Chicago leads series 2-1)
1st period
Kane opens up the scoring on a one timer, gorgeous pass from Hossa. 1-0 ‘Hawks with 11:40 left in the 1st period.
Anaheim dumps the puck in and Niemi misplays it and Christensen puts it in...1-1...3 min left.
Niemi looks shaky...other than that Chicago dominating. Shots: Chicago 12 Anaheim 4

2nd period
Ducks break out and Chris Campoli (acquired by the Ducks in a deadline deal) joins the rush and buries a wrist shot to make it 2-1 Anaheim.
Sharp ties it up 3 minutes later on a sweet pass from Afinogenov (acquired earlier in the year for Dustin Byfuglien and a pick). 2-2 tie.
10 minutes left in the period and Getzlaf takes a slashing penalty...1st call of the game.
They kill it off. Tough one.
2-2 after 2 periods of play...24 shots for Chicago...14 for Anaheim.

3rd period
At the 3 minute mark Corey Perry goes off for holding.
Getzlaf scores a SH goal on a sloppy play by Barker...friggin’ brutal.
Chicago can’t clear the zone and with under 10 minutes left Lupul slaps one past Niemi for a 4-2 lead. So frustrating.
7 minutes later Hossa scores on a pass from Kane...3-2. Great goal.
His 4th of the playoffs.
Right when I have a chance to come back freaking George Parros of all people scores on a weak rebound goal...5-3 Anaheim. Parros also collected 3rd star with 1 goal and 1 assist. So lame.
Game over 5-3...series tied at 2-2
The first team to score a goal has lost every game...weird.
Shots: Chicago 32...Anaheim 21

Game 5 (Series tied 2-2)
Huet back in the net for this one. Niemi wasn’t great in game 4...

1st period
Getzlaf opens up the scoring on a defensive breakdown by Chicago...1-0
At the 15 minute mark Niedermayer takes a tripping penalty....
On the PP 2 unreal saves are made by Giguere...then D-man Sbisa takes a slash...5 on 3 for 30 seconds.
Another save by Giguere...but persistence pays off when Toews feeds Kane to tie the game 1-1 on the PP.
Good 1st period...1-1
Chicago 12...Anaheim 4

2nd period
Off the forecheck Corey Perry feeds to Bobby Ryan (his 1st of the series) in front of the net who snaps one past Huet..2-1 Ducks.

Anaheim takes a penalty...Bobby Ryan elbowing. 3 min left in the 2nd.
15 seconds into the PP Brent Seabrook takes an elbowing penalty. ‘Hawks playing with incredible discipline.

Toews passes to Kane for a goal...6-5 anaheim...PP is unreal tonight.
Anaheim kills off half of the 5 minute major and wins 6-5...3-2 series lead for Anaheim
Shots...Chicago 32...Anaheim 18
Might have to spend some $$$ or trade for a #1 goalie next year cause this is ridiculous.

Game 6 (Anaheim leads series 3-2)
Huet gets the start despite an abysmal performance...Niemi was just as bad if not worse so it was really was a toss up.

1st period
Toews opens up the scoring 2 min in with a snap shot from the right hash mark...assists to Kane and Sseabrook.
Slow period so far...5 minutes left and I don’t want to make a mistake. Playing conservative, dump and chase, because of the poor goaltending I can’t pinch or take chances.
Best chance for Anaheim came on a 2 on 1...but Huet stood tall and stopped Todd Marchant to preserve the 1-0 lead at the end of 1
Shots: Chicago 2...anaheim 7

2nd period
At the 5 minute mark in the 2nd period Wisniewski takes a bad roughing penalty...Chicago to the PP
Both teams still playing conservative...
With 2:37 left in the 2nd Campoli takes a slashing call.
Anaheim kills it off...Huet has been solid...perhaps the wakeup call of being pulled in the previous game has helped.
Still 1-0 after 2

To start the 3rd Chicago sustains pressure and Toews trickles one past Giguere...great forecheck...2-0...Kane and Keith get the helpers

Kane scores off a beautiful feed from Toews...3-1 Chicago! His 6th of the playoffs.
Anaheim pulls their goalie and Chicago takes advantage...Toews gives it to Ladd and he makes it count...4-1 Chicago...
Chicago wins!!! 4-1 the series is tied at 3-3 headed back to the Windy City.
Shots Chicago 18...Anaheim 19

Game 7 (Series tied 3-3)
Huet gets the start after being very solid last game...game 6 was the best Chicago has played...we played solid defensively and didn’t give Anaheim very many chances.

1st period
Halfway through the 1st period Niedermayer takes a tripping penalty
Dave Bolland wins the faceoff which goes right to Cam Barker who sends a 1 timer past Giguere...1-0 PP goal.
Chicago pouring it on in the 1st but Giguere playing well and keeping the Ducks in it.
Madden gets a pass from Versteeg in the slot, he beats Giguere but can’t beat the goal post...still 1-0
Solid 1st period for Chicago...12 shots to 3

2nd period
12 min left in the 2nd...Bobby Ryan gets called for tripping
Wisniewski gets a roughing penalty
Versteeg scores a PP goal...sweet feed from barker! 2-0 chicago
2-0 chicago at the end of 2
Shots
Chicago...26...anaheim 8

3rd period
Off a great forecheck the Blackhawks score..Hossa from Toews...11 minutes left in the period
3-0 chicago!
10 minutes left...Anaheim takes a penalty...Parros for slashing.
Toews gobbles up a rebound and then feeds Hossa in front for his 2nd of the game...PP goal...4-0!
Anaheim losing their cool....Wisniewski gets 2 minutes for roughing...terrible penalty
They kill it off but Niedermayer gets 2 for tripping...4 min left...Anaheim kills the penalty but it doesn’t matter as Chicago wins! 4-0 shutout...4-3 series win!
Dominating performance for Chicago...34 shots to Anaheim’s 12.

Toews was ridiculous in the series...17 points in 7 games...5 goals 12 assists
Kane had 11, hossa had 10 points. Huet played well in the last 2 games giving up just 1 goal.

Next opponent is the #8 seeded LA Kings who knocked off the #1 Minnesota Wild.

tiger woods

Everyone has gone crazy about the Tiger Woods story. Workplaces everywhere have been buzzing about all of the Tiger drama that has taken place in the last 2-4 weeks. Its been unreal. Its interesting to watch a guy that goes from being 'too perfect' to 'not so perfect' so quickly. You want my take? Well regardless of how you answered that question i'm going to give it to you.

I thought Tiger Woods was the coolest guy on earth. Greatest golfer alive, fairly good looking, nice looking family, wore great outfits on the course, represented one of my favorite companies, Nike but most of all I wanted to play golf like him. I watch golf because of Tiger Woods. I wear red on the golf course because of Tiger Woods. I PVR the tournaments he is in and fast forward to each of his shots, rarely watching anyone else (only when it is super intense do I watch others). We have all made mistakes in our lives, I think we need to forgive and forget...however this does not excuse Tiger for his 'transgressions'. I believe that when you are a public figure like Tiger you have to hold yourself to a higher standard and be a role model...because it comes with the territory. He let a lot of people down with his recent 'misdeeds' and he is going to have to work hard to regain some of his fans. For me? Well, what has happened is unfortunate, I don't condone it and I feel badly for his wife (ex?), his kids and the rest of his family/loved ones, but at the end of the day I loved Tiger for 1 reason and 1 reason only...and that was how he handled himself from the 1st tee to the 18th green...that is why I still love Tiger Woods.

playoff blog coming up!

I have quietly been playing my NHL '10 season with the Chicago Blackhawks. Currently I have played 75 games and i have a record of 43-20-12, good for 2nd place in the Western Conference and 1st in the division. Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews form one of the NHL's best lines. Brent Seabrook, Duncan Keith, Brian Campbell and Cam Barker solidify the defense for the 'Hawks. Christobal Huet and Antti Niemi are solid between the pipes. 7 more games to go before the playoffs begin, so stay tuned for blogging action of each playoff game! I am hoping to bring the cup back to the Windy City in 2010!

MAYFAIR!

so my day at mayfair went well. it is now my favorite course in edmonton. great practice facilities and an awesome layout. and plus, its right in the heart of edmonton so its just a short drive away. anyways, the day didn't start well. i double bogeyed the first hole and followed it up with an 8 on the par 4 2nd hole. so i was quickly 6 over after 2 holes. i then went par, bogey, bogey, par and then a triple bogey. i ended up shooting 46 on the front 9. i am proud of myself for finishing strong though. the back 9 i shot a +2 38 so finish with an 84. really i only had 3 bad holes so i was pretty happy with the way i played. my driver has been letting me down lately, that is one area that i need to work on. as well as my long distance putting...i had 2 of them today and 3 putted them both.

anyways, next round is this saturday at belvedere. i'll keep you posted.

Going to the Mayfair - June 23, 2009

Well, today I am going to THE ROYAL MAYFAIR CLUB. It is the first time I'm playing it and i'll be sure to put my update of the round on the blog.

For those who don't know the Mayfair is one of the most prestigious courses in the city. It has hosted numerous LPGA events. Most recently it hosted the CN Canadian Women's Open in 2007. I am really excited and hopefully I can play well. Wish me luck.

An educational experience

so i went to minnesota for the NCAA tournament and i came back learning a lot more about real life than i did about basketball. i learned a heck of a lot about the economy in the US and how much it sucks. it started off as a joke but then turned more serious everytime we left the hotel, until eventually our jokes aroused no laughter and we were all in the car silent and pondering...

examples of the how much the economy has affected (effected?) the US and minnesota in general...

1 - company names on buildings were not there...you know office buildings downtown where you see huge letters on the top of buildings....well there was no letters just outlines because the letters have been taken off. obviously companies can't afford rent

2 - tons of new cars in an overflow parking lot not even near a dealership. during these tough economic times nobody can buy new cars.

3 - going into a deli and not being able to see because there were no lights on...no fresh meat...no fresh food at all...with the 3 workers (i presume) silently sitting around a picnic table in the store looking depressed.

4 - people gathered around a TV set in the middle of Minneapolis cheering at a basketball game...it was weird to see this because it illustrated how sports is the only thing that can make people smile anymore.

5 - random people just stopping their cars and getting out and puking all over...

6 - a total lack of newspapers. you know the side of the street newspaper machines...?? yes, well there were no papers in them...and we were there for 4 days and there were none. obviously during these tough times people cant afford the news and/or the newspaper company is out of business and/or people dont wanna buy the newspaper because they dont wanna read about the tough economic times....the one paper that i did see was for 3 days!!! i mean one paper was the news for thursday, friday and saturday. depressing.

so that was my trip i wish i would have taken pictures but it was too depressing, for real.

it was a debacle of monumental proportions to see such a horrid scene but oh well

march madness

here we are...march is upon us and it is my favorite time of the year...for one reason. The NCAA basketball tournament. its a time when suddenly everyone is a big fan of college hoops, but i'm ok with that. as long as people are actually talking about college hoops then i'm cool.

this year is the first year of our new annual trip to see 1st and 2nd rounds games of the tournament. me and 3 buddies are driving...yes driving...to minnesapolis to see 6 games. i cant wait. although a part of me would like to be at my home sitting on my couch watching all the action. but you know what? this is the tournament man, and i cant wait to be a part of it live.

we are seeing:

north dakota state vs kansas
dayton vs west virginia
usc vs boston college
robert morris vs michigan state

i have kansas, west virginia, usc and michigan state all advancing...

PS. i also started a new NHL 09 franchise with the Toronto Maple Leafs and my record is 8-10-2

My laptop and Cellphones

My laptop is a mixed bag of good and bad. I have wanted one for a long time and now that I have one, I cant believe that I didn't own one before. Its like a cell phone in that way. In high school, I didn't have a cell phone because I didn't even think of it. But when I was 19 years old I got a cell phone for the first time and now have had one for the past 6 years. I wonder if i'll ever not have one...probably not. So whats the age when cell phones are appropriate? We have all heard of kids who are no older than 14 that have cell phones. I dont know what to make of this because on one hand, if my kid took the bus or walked to school then I might want them to have a cell phone in case of an emergency. But on the other hand, I dont want them to have it because for one, they cost money and I couldn't trust my kid to not text message. There is no doubt that the text message and day time talk bill would be through the roof. Second, they would be texting and talking during school hours and this would surely make their grades go down.

This brings me back to my laptop. Last year, without one, I felt in control of my studies, I was more on top of school than I had been in my whole life. But this year, I have a laptop everyday at school and it seems like I am falling behind in school. Every spare moment that I have I am on the computer, checking out http://www.espn.com/ or on facebook. It definitely is a time killer. However, it is also good to have a laptop because if I need to write a paper or check my email, then I have that luxury at my disposal. So I ask the question...is a laptop really worth it to have my GPA drop by .3 points? I would have to say yes.

Vancouver wins the series 4-2. Winning 4 straight games to take the series. the reffing was stupid...oilers got called for 9 penalties and the Canucks 0. i am really mad and now i go into the off season. i had high hopes for the season...i really wanted to bring back the cup to Edmonton but its not gonna happen this year.

GAME 4

The 1st period
no scoring...6 shots aside with both teams playing fairly defensive, not wanting to make mistakes.

2nd period
Cogliano had a wide open net on the Powerplay mid way through the period but sent the shot over the net...this was the best chance for the Oil all period long. Canucks open the scoring at 16:09 of the 2nd...darcy hordichuk scores his 1st of the playoffs. prior to that the canucks hit 2 posts...so one was bound to go in. overall this period was very even except the canucks buried a goal and the Oil didn't. the shots at the end of the 2nd are Oil 21, Canucks 18. Luongo is playing great.

3rd period
The Oilers tie the game up at 1-1 when hemsky pounces on a rebound to beat Luongo. Heatley gets credit for an assist, his shot set up the play, as does Marc Savard. Its Hemsky's 3rd goal of the playoffs.

NCAA basketball

Some of my posts in the next while will be updating everyone on my video game life. As often as I see fit, I will be updating everyone on the exciting world of NCAA basketball 09.

I should have done this at the start of the season, but i didn't come up with the brilliant idea until yesterday afternoon as i was writing the most boring essay on business ethics ever. 10 pages and its a book report...stupid.

Anyways, I am the Wichita State shockers and currently have a record of 14-5...7-3 in conference play. I have lost 2 straight to Evansville and Bradley...2 bad losses as far as i'm concerened because they are both bottom dwellers in the missouri valley conference.

My starting lineup...

C Garrett Stutz - Fr (7' footer with loads of potential...a good rebounder with a nice touch)
F JT Durley - So (a garbage guy who grabs boards and plays solid defence)
G David Kyles - Fr (sweet shooting guard who is my best offensive player)
G Torre Murry - Fr (scorer who likes to penetrate and finishes well...my best defensive player)
G Reggie Britton Jr - Fr (consumate team guy...does everything well...good shooter, good passer)

off the bench i bring...

PG Clevin Hannah - Jr (not a good shooter, OK passer, very quick)
PF Aaron Ellis - So (great rebounder, ok finisher around the hoop)
PG Reggie Chamberlain - So (bad shooter, can get to the rim with his quickness)
SG - Graham Hatch - Jr (only Mormon on the team, good shooter who is struggling lately)
F - Ramon Clemente - Sr (undersized PF who does the little things)

As you can see i have a really young team. I start 4 freshman and a sophmore. I really anna build my team around shooters. I like to play small ball with one big man and a forward and 3 guards...that is my ideal lineup. Anyways, i will update this blog every so often with results from games. perhaps i will update it with stats when i'm home and in front of my PS3.

the feedback on the team would be appreciated...thanks!
